So, I have been having a MAJOR issue with my health insurance company. First off, I'm on my mom's insurance plan, but I am over 18, so that means she cannot handle the insurance people for me. Anyways... it's a private insurance company based in Va. They are refusing to pay my Psychiatrist. It started off where, they refused to pay my Dr. because my insurance company made a mistake and then started playing a blame game with my Dr.'s office. The deductible has been long paid off (twice-I was on my dad's plan with a $200 deductible and then got switched to my mom's plan in April with a $200 deductible), and they first told me, I do not owe my Dr. a penny. Now, all of a sudden, they are saying it is all of my responsibility to pay him as it goes towards my deductible (the one that had already been paid off months in advance but now, somehow is not?) They said, they will not pay for any mental health service until the deductible is paid off, yet they pay for my therapy visits every single week. I was told to sign up for medicare but they refused me because my state has not extended their services to people in my situation (having lost my insurance due to a parent dying-I was on my dad's plan at the start of the year). My insurance company is putting my mental health at serious risk here by refusing to pay for what they owe. Now, because of this, they took my Dr. off of their providers list, and I am stuck being a self-pay patient. $100 each visit. The only good thing is I get to save $50, because with the insurance, it was $150 each visit.
