she was strong too - not bad - she didn't want to go there to that awful place so she defied it some. takes a very strong sense of will to do that - brave the cold rather than a bad situation. brave the parents. i think it was an attempt to take better care of one's self (?) than the choices being offered. I'm really sad that she had to make that choice and wasn't cared for better. she should have been cared for by the adults. the adults were bad - not the child.
