Either way, however, the sentiment certain people have had in the past has now been adulterated and commercialized to the point where people today spend money they do not have to buy things nobody really needs in order to try to impress or feel close to people many of them do even really like...and I stay as far away from all of that as possible.
Yes, Christmas being put on the 25 had a motive for sure. We know now that that is BS, in a sense. The story itself may be a bit of a myth. Who can say? But people get a little too literal. That really kills the magic of it. I like the story with the shepherds and angels and wise men, but it's what the story says about the event that's important. Shepherds were the lowest of the low and they got the first peek. It was a humble birth, not a kingly one. And so on. But I'll go the birds eye view. This story is about something so small and so good and so filled with light entering our lives in the darkest months. Make of it what you will. For me it means Emmanuel, God with us. Imagine, a God willing to take the most vulnerable form in order to bring us light and hope.

Now how you find that amidst our insane quest for the perfect "Christmas"...whatever that is...I cannot say. For me, I gotta go to church, light the candles, and sing the ancient songs.
