Yes. Ask your doctors about tapering down. Don't try going all for broke with the cold turkey method. Especially with SSRIs. Going cold turkey off of something like Effexor is downright hellish. Constant nausea, headaches, brain zaps that feel like they are splitting your head right down the middle, and cold sweats that soak your clothes and bedsheets thoroughly like you've just come fresh out of the shower, sans the clean relaxed and fresh feelings. That's just the physical side of things, then there's the sudden and seemingly inexplicable sense of absolute moroseness, absolute desolate depression that envelopes you. You spend most of your day curled up in a ball wanting the world to go away, or you to just disappear, complete with crying to the point where your eyeballs are so red and puffy and your nose is so snotty that you feel like the last person anyone would want to get near, let alone want to help.
No....I wouldn't wish that kind of torture on anyone. Not a single soul. Not a one. Not even those who would wish it on me. From what I've heard about going cold turkey on smoking cigarettes, and what I know of going cold turkey on Effexor? I'd chose quitting cigs cold turkey. It sounds like an absolute walk in the park by comparison.
