I think this is part of why she chose to dress very different and change her appearance. There were probably some very deep meanings to her different styles that perhaps even she did not fully realize. Maybe it was better for her to not show her true self physically because that was the part of her that was attacked/invaded/disrespected so badly.

I think there are many who can relate to 'keeping to self" too. If one thinks about it, with any deep painful wound a person is likely to hide and protect it verses expose it where it could be reinjured.
