Nothing there proves he does not care, just that you possibly heard from an automated (or at least partially-automated) system without his having taken the time (or maybe even not having the time) to follow through with you without disturbing his own schedule. I had a similar situation yesterday, and I know how frustrating or even devastating that can be.
