I'm a musician and a music lover, and I think one reason this is the case is that music profoundly affects my moods and emotions. I'm very sensitive.

Although I have a degree in music, I've never studied music therapy. I know virtually nothing about it. But I know how to use music as a drug for myself, for good or for bad. There is music that can trigger depression or mania for me. I have to been very careful with that.

Today, my mood has been very chaotic. I have felt very keyed up to an uncomfortable level...racing, obsessive thoughts, a musical ear worm...unfocused. Then it occurred to me to listen to one of the songs that always brings me down, into a melancholy if listen to it too much, too deeply. At least for the moment it has brought me relief. For me, today that was the theme from the movie "Somewhere in Time". It's a dangerous song for me, so I have to be careful, but it gave me relief for the time being.

There are many songs and artists or whole albums that I use like this.

What's your music medicine?
