Maybe with some proper counseling/therapy he might be more inclined to take his meds. I'm not sure. I was in denial and against meds at first, so I didn't take them, but my therapist helped me a lot with that by convincing me that's what I needed. Of course it wasn't an overnight thing, but over the months we slowly worked it out.
I know it must be SO hard to watch him deteriorate like this, but it sounds like you are prepared to help him as much as you can, which is awesome. You're a very caring mother. You're there to help guide him along a very long road to recovery, and I think he needs that kind of support right now, so you're doing all the right things.
Continue to stay strong, no matter how scared you are. You can do this, and so can your son.
