I worked for a huge medical group in Florida. My daughters pediatrician was part of that group long before I decided to take a job there in billing dept.
In medical billing LOTS of doctors notes and exams I needed to attach to a appeal on a claim denied.
When I was interviewed I was asked if I knew anyone that was patient , yes my daughter. I was advised even though I was her parent I was not allowed to look up her records, had to sign off on that, if a time came up that insurance needed X notes , it would be diverted to another biller. They also had a Lock out feature that had I even wanted to take a peek it would show up in a print out that I had attempted to view something I was not allowed .
HIPPA Laws are in effect for anything medical.
