Hello. I have no idea where an appropriate place for this would really be, but as someone who is suffering from depression and who had plans to see this movie I felt that I should share what I have discovered. (What I tell you is in the first 20 minutes of the film.)

I wanted to see Collateral Beauty and thank goodness I read and watched reviews first because the trailer does not indicate in any way what this movie is about. The trailer suggests that Will Smith is grieving from depression. He writes letters to Death, Love, and Time. And then he gets visits from all three in human form. That’s what the trailer suggests this movie is about and it’s really not.

This movie is primarily about Will Smith’s friends. The three friends notice that he is depressed and are concerned that he’s letting their business fail. When they discovered he’s writing letters, they decide to hire actors to portray Death, Love, and Time. Then their plan is to have Will filmed talking to them, then they’ll edit the actors out to make Will look crazy. Then they’ll show the video footage to the board so they can get Will fired and they can make money as the company gets sold off.

I’ve heard there are some people out there that like this movie and get something out of it, and that’s good for them. But as I have said, I’m getting over depression myself and I had not seen the reviews I would have left the theater feeling awful, so I felt I should let people know beforehand. So if you choose to go see it, you know what it's REALLY about.

I apologize if this post is inappropriate, but the sheer concept of this film gets under my skin.
