What helps me is to distract myself with various things. I like to take a walk, and say "I won't self harm now, I'll walk, if after the walk and at 7 PM I still have the urge, then I'll do it". The point of this is that while walking (or exercising, or cleaning...) usually you'll be able to distract yourself and you'll think less about hurting yourself. I get so focused on the activity that I forget about hurting myself, I don't think about it. So choose to release your energy in some activities. Others can be colouring something, or drawing, writing, dancing, cleaning, reading...maybe breathing techniques and meditation if they interest you
