I wholeheartedly agree with Wander -- that was actually very considerate and professional of your pdoc. My old pdoc never told me anything; he wanted me to continue seeing him even though I wasn't making progress. I ultimately dumped him.
Sorry you're spiraling, though. I can only imagine how difficult it is to go through this, as it's very easy to develop a professional relationship with a doctor you really like. I had to go through this with my old GP and it sent me spiraling too.
What upset me was that my GP wasn't kind enough to recommend me a new GP, so I had to find another one. Though in hindsight, I should have asked her if she recommended someone else before she left. So I really, really think you should ask your pdoc for recommendations. I know a recommendation would have eased the spiraling for me. I felt totally "lost" when my GP left and I had no one recommended to me.
