Just thought I'd add in, I've had a long (well for my age) history of knee problems. I've had 2 surgeries and going to have a 3rd soon. I always leave my surgeons office in more pain than I went in with. They move and press the joint in loads of ways and it does increase the pain. I find it settles down after a few days. I tend to take a painkiller and anti inflammatory just before going to see him, so that it will help with the pain after.
