The other week, I checked out and read Dan Hurley's book, 'Smarter, the New Science of Building Brain Power.' While the book had a health representation of the skeptical point of view regarding working memory training programs, it listed lots of studies where Dual N-Back, a working memory training program(you can find it online) had positive results in improving working memory and measures of fluid intelligence. Since deficits in working memory is a symptom of or perhaps a core issue in schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, I wondered if training using Dual N-Back could help me with some of the 'negative' symptoms I experience. I have trouble with organization, motivation, and mental flexibility these days, so I figured it is worth a shot. I tend to do around 25 minutes a day.
