This is a good idea for anyone who is lonely on New Year's....reaching out to others, and if it doesn't work out, maybe there's places around you can go to that have general New Year's events for people to just hang out, eat, etc. Waiting for others to reach out can be depressing, so taking a proactive approach if you feel you have the energy to do so is a good potential solution.
