I noticed some people prefer to listen to sad or angry songs when you can relate to those emotions at the time. Others prefer happy, uplifting music at times during phases of depression and irritability.
-What's your favorite genre/type of music you like to listen to when depressed?
-What genre do you prefer when in a happy or even euphoric mood?
-Any particular artists you listen to when depressed? How about when elated?
-Any songs that mean the most to you?
I tend to channel my anger into songs that reflect my mood...same with depression, although some therapists do not recommend this. I do try to be careful if something might trigger me further while in a deep depression, but some songs of that nature can be oddly comforting. Upbeat music I will turn to when I'm elated. I like music I can relate to. All genres are good. I like a lot of metal, classic rock/alternative(which are favorites).... some Motown, classic pop on occasion, a little (usually older) hip hop and R&B, old-school Goth....I'm quite versatile. Usually I go with darker stuff when depressed and more upbeat stuff when in a better mood, but I mix it up quite a bit.
