I live in Canada, the waiting lists in the provinceI used to live in (Québec) weren't good for certain things, and as a result I never really went to the doctor unless it was something super super urgent.
(That's partly because Québec has less doctors then other provinces because of language issues and political issues, so I think other provinces have better waiting lists.)
But it is still nice to have universal health care, and the hospitals were pretty clean in my area. There were fewer English-speaking doctors, although that wasn't a huge problem for me because I speak French. There was also a good anonymous clinic service.
