It reminds me of how the very first time I went to see my therapist, he offered the interpretation that my profound stuckness in the marriage (inability to move forward and disengage) was due to my childhood relationship with my mother. That was immediately apparent to me to be SO TRUE! I told him that and oohed and ahhed a bit, and said why didn't I ever think of that? And he said, "well, it's not rocket science." This, after having never met me before and talking to me for 40 minutes. Ha, I don't think I appreciated that rocket science comment at the time at all.
