I applied for SSDI (Social Security Disability Income) at age 60 and was finally approved a little over a year later after having made an appeal following a medical hospitalization stemming from stress, anxiety and depression after having been denied. I did not have a great amount of disability documentation, but the judge at my hearing listened attentively and became convinced I had truly made an honest effort to keep working for just as long as I possibly could. That does not mean you should keep trying to work if you honestly cannot, but do be prepared for being challenged to prove you cannot.
