I agree that few people understand it. PMDD was only just added to the newest DSM, which has only been in use (at least in my area) in the past year or year and a half. I think that in the past the symptoms have just been lumped in with PMS, so there's been a huge stigma about it.

My supervisor at work recently shared with me that she used to go through similar mood swings during the month. She said her gynecologist prescribed her a horomone cream that she had to put on at night. I'm hoping that going through a gynecologist will be a better route, I have an appointment in a few months to see someone. So far my GP doesn't know anything about treating it (and I've been sharing my observations with him for years), and my pdoc just tries to normalize it, without seeing where I'm coming from when I talk about it.
