I'm glad you had the courage to quit. That sounds awful. It's definitely a sign that there was so much turnover in the position.

Last April, I quit a job where the owner of the company was a complete bully, leaving me very stressed all the time. I, too, had been unemployed for a while before starting it, so it was kind of hard to make the decision to leave. I started a new job recently and it is so much better. My project manager is very easygoing and in the few cases where I've been given criticism it was constructive, with clear suggestions about how I can do better.

It's unfortunate, but your ex boss, of course will probably never change his behavior. He'll probably be shocked when the next person he hires for the job also quits.
