The other big difference in the photos is the make-up. If the Op wears make-up every day, use a photo with make-up. If she doesn't usually wear-up, use photos without it. Do whatever is most representative of everyday life.

I agree with Lefty that the second picture is not flattering and that a better picture could be used, but I also agree with you that the second picture is also more honest and realistic. The first picture is deceiving in the sense that at that angle, you can't see the rest of the body and so seeing the OP for the first time may be a bit of a shock to potential dates.
Perhaps a more flattering head-on shot that combines realism and good lighting would be a good compromise?
