I have recurring "abandonment" dreams, which sound much like you have described with trying to secure people to assist you (like in working for you on the farm). I have no experience with the children aspect as I have a loving relationship with my one daughter, but otherwise, it sounds like issues of abandonment on all counts to me.
I too wish we had an expert in dream interpretation.
