Hi,
Dreams that we remember always happen near the waking level. Do not understimate your subconscious! It knows when the alarm is going to go off and "primes" your brain ready for the allarm.
Sometimes when I went to sleep very tired the alarm was incorporated into my dream as the phone ringinging. I answered it put the phone down and went back to sleep. This happened many times as I used to work unsocial hours.
Another point is that dreams do not always happen in real time, but sometime very quickly. It is probable that some of your "strange" dreams happen when the allarm starts and brings your level of consciousness to waking before the allarm stops.
Dreaming is a fascinating subject!
