NEVER self medicate - this includes not taking medication as prescribed. If you have a problem with the prescription, that is a conversation you should be having with your doctor.

Yes, it takes some time for medication to take it's effect. Most are actually in the 6-12 week range. Go back to your doctor and as I mentioned tell them you are concerned about the temporary side effects. Ask if there is another option. Ask about what you can do to cope in the interim.

We can help you with some coping mechanisms here. My favourite is carrying around a 'worry stone' (it's really a pebble), But I also practise mindfulness; and, if I am really anxious, I use weight therapy (in my case it is a heavy bean bag I put on my shoulder).

Again, I am really alarmed by your not taking your medication. You were prescribed it for a reason. I think you should give it a try. Speaking of which, I had great success with Citalpram. I was prescribed it as a transitionary 'tool' until I successfuly completed a CBT course.
