If it helps any to know, I was unemployed for 2 years for similar reasons. It took me 6 months of sending my resume to practically every employer that was hiring, but I finally landed a decent job. If you want to go back to work (it's a little unclear if you do) don't let the fact that you've not been working for a while stop you. You could also use a job services program that helps you write a resume and find potential jobs that you might be interested in. Or work for a temp agency until you find something more permanent.
