I don't know if I've ever had racing thoughts which tend to be so common in bipolar. I heard them described as having 10 different thought processes going on simultaneously with none of them being able to congeal into one that makes sense.
I'm not sure where I fall on the bipolar spectrum though. I was only recently diagnosed after I pushed myself too hard while working on something which led to an insomnia episode that exhausted me and had me call my p-doc frantically the next day asking for something to help sleep and an emergency appointment the next business day.
I'm 36 and before that, I'd had one long period of deep depression, a few years of off and on depression, and no episodes. After being put on Lexapro for 10 years, I had a good state of mind and no issues until the insomnia thing.
Even if my thinking goes quickly, it's still generally linear thoughts I can follow one by one. I do have trouble falling asleep but that seemed more like anxiety and fear that I'd sleep through something important rather than racing thoughts.
