I was originally on Wellbutrin XL and it did make me irritable and agitated, plus it gave me insomnia. Switching to SR really made a difference. As far as exactly why, I'm not the best one to answer about the pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics between each. Everyone is different in how they react to any particular drug.
