you can even talk to your family doctor. If they feel it is warranted they can refer you further up the mental healthcare line. Question: can you turn to the doctor who prescribed you that medication? That would be part of their responsibility in terms of followup.
As another poster suggested, I strongly warn you against trying to self-diagnose. The internet and forums like this are great for learning about a mental illness after one gets diagnosed. Remember too we are not professionals.
it was also pointed out that medications don't immediately take effect. Most take 6-8 weeks but it is not unheard of for much longer than that.
In the meantime, we here can offer suggestions on coping strategies. I recognise the melancholy but could there be some underlying anxiety too.
Start perhaps with a physical object you can touch and concentrate on when you feel triggered. I have a strange stone I often keep in my pocket that I will rub. It sounds silly but I keep three coffee beans in my pockets too (a longer story).
