I was very lucky with my case. I have heard it usually takes much longer and usually people are denied even with far more serious circumstances. I only have bipolar I, was hearing voices and not working. So I applied back in October of last year and received my first check three days before New Year's Eve. We even consulted a lawyer who told me the rates and whatnot.

Just try to be as detailed as possible in your application. And just in case, look up the rates for lawyers in your area.
