maybe a high(ish) dose "atypical" ? I take 30mgs/Abilify. I'm looking to reduce soon-ish, but its ok for right now. Anyway...that's about 8mgs/Haldol or 400mgs/Thorazine. The difference is in tolerability (and cost, sadly...but Abilify is now generic...).

amoxapine at high doses can help psychosis and mood. its generic, tricyclic drug mostly for depression. Perphenazine can be as effective as the "atypicals" with comparable side effects --if-- the dose is carefully adjusted (its easy to go too high). Low dose loxapine can be effective and well-tolerated, and its generic now, too.

I think getting a tranquilizer that you can take w/o the cogentin will also be a big help, in terms of mood, cognitive issues, etc.
