What kind of threat did he make to your coworker?
I guess you could try and talk to HR? But if he hasn't made any kind of threat or comments to you, you really don't have any kind of complaint to make. They must have hired him back for a reason. If you have concerns though, you could always sit down with HR and voice those concerns.
