I'm guessing even if you don't have any skills, they'll still be able to find you a good fit. And the best part is the ball is entirely in your court. They can offer you a job and you can say yes or no. But the advice I've been given is that if you accept a position you need to stick to it until the contract is over. Show up to work every day and be on time. Not sure what to say about the lack of transportation. They may be able to find work close by or near a bus stop.

You may have been dealt a shi**y hand, but you're not a loser. Losers give up. Losers are moochers and expect everything given to them. It sounds like you're in a horrible place but you're willing to succeed despite your obstacles. Sounds like a hero in the making to me. ((hugs))
I tried working with a temp agency once last year and it didn't go so well for me.

A big problem that I'm still facing is a lack of references. I literally have nobody in my life that would be a reference for me. I have no past employers and no family or friends who can help me. The only person who might be able to help me is my case manager but that would likely mean that I would have to disclose my mental illness which I don't feel comfortable doing.

Even the fact that I don't have any provable work experience wouldn't be an issue if I had a valid reference that I could use to get me in the door, but I don't which is why I am trying to volunteer while I wait on my DRS application to complete. What sucks unfortunately is that I tried filling out a few applications for volunteer positions in my area that would be able to help me build valid references and experience (I'm excluding the many that say come in for 3 hours a week or a few days a month or whatever which is not enough time to get what I need) and almost all of them required me to have references (which I don't have). I have found 2 so far that don't and one was a thrift store where the owners just had a death in the family right before I submitted my application and the other requires me to walk 2.5 to and from the nearest bus stop every day just to get there which is too much to ask out of me to do 3-4 days a week without including a paycheck.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to try out some more temp agencies if I can find some that offer entry level positions but I just don't see it happening without references.
