Okay, so here is the background: I'm responsible for a revenue budget of $1.8 million in outright cash, and another $500,000 in in-kind or trade contributions.
There are a certain type of gifts that come from our community foundation called endowments that are part of my $1.8M goal that I steward all year.
Yesterday, one of them came in for $40,000, and my CEO wants to reclassify it to my colleague's revenue to bolster up her revenue goal. I have about $200,000 in these kinds of gifts as part of my budget. He wants to do this for my colleague because she has to raise $2M in the next four months, while I only have $450,000 to go to make my goal. She has four people in her division helping her make that $2M goal (she's VERY behind for the fiscal year), and I only have one person helping me, which is sort of why our goals are different. My CEO suggested reclassifying all these gifts to her budget. I am livid. It will make me $200,000 short at the end of the year so that she can get closer to making her goal, which she almost certainly will not. It's robbing Peter to pay Paul to make it look like she did more than she did. And it will scapegoat me as not making my goal when I did make my goal, they just stole money that I brought in.
I am livid. And I have raised a stink about it. I told them if they want to do that in next year's budget and do it as part of the budgeting process, I'm fine with that, but not mid-year as an attempt to help her reach her goal and make me be significantly under goal for the year. Why should I come up short when I do all the work on these contributions?
Another reason I need to get the hell out of this job ASAP.
