When I was a child I really liked this song, sung by Tony Bennett, but my father didn't like and made fun of it. I loved my father so was secretely upset we didn't "agree" on it. Listening to it now after 50 years I understand his point of view but I'm still sad it was "ruined" for me somewhat because he didn't like it. Do you like the philosophy or think it's sappy/wrong to "pretend" things are right when they're not in hopes they'll get better.

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
