I don't know about the US but in the UK they don't seem to care about the depression. Unless you are planning suicide they do nothing particularly.
If you are showing signs of mania they are all over it, increase appointments, more likely to go inpatient (if there is such a thing as available beds) etc etc.
Obviously depression with suicidal ideation isn't a worry.
They just don't want you to get manic.
It's stupid.
