So I've reached chapter 13 so far in my reading of "The body keeps the score" by Bessel Van Der Kolk and here are my thoughts so far about it.
It a seminal book about trauma in and its mainly oriented toward PTSD not CPTSD (Since some CPTSD symptoms overlap with PTSD, its an important read anyway). If you don't feel well don't read it, since it has a lot of stories that might be triggering.
It clarifies a lot of issues in labeling mental disorders, which is very critical to know. Sometimes we shame ourselves by giving ourselves the "depressive" label, or CPTSD label or whatever. Bessel Van Der Kolk admits something that will change your view about yourself.
Its one of the most important books to read guys. I know we are doing a lot of reading and sometimes it feels we are not doing anything. Awareness and knowledge will morph later into mindfulness. I didn't know how knowledge could morph into mindfulness, as Pete Walker mentioned in his book, But only recently it makes sense to me. I tried to practice mindfulness just for the sake of it, most of times it doesn't work. The mindfulness I'm gaining from self help "feels" awesome.
