I used to occasionally return to my childhood home and ask to visit "the big tree" where my brothers and I used to play, and I think the matter of not having adult responsibilities in those days is only part of the deal. Some folks might "keep up" or whatever as the world spins on, and I do no longer have any desire to return to that tree. Yet nevertheless, I still think many of the things modern society might call "progress" are far from best for all.
