Unfortunately, it's the idiots who are high on power that run things and not the people who would actually be good at it doing so. I don't respect most authority figures for that very reason; I can't respect somebody weaker or less intelligent than myself just because they wield authority. If anything, I pretend to respect said authority figures only when it benefits me.
