I was recently trying to explain I felt homicidal, and at the time I didn't actually know the word for it, so I used the example of a detective show to try and get my point across.

I said something like.. you know how sometimes detectives investigate cases where someone has killed someone else?, well that's how I feel sometimes, like I want to be the killer.

it was embarrassing for me but I still admitted it.

you have to be honest in these situations.
