I'm pretty sure it would really suck to crash into a deep depression and have to deal with your 2 car garage filled with 6 brand new cars that are being shat on by a flock of falcons, while a miniature donkey covered in clay watches in horror as he spins round and round in circles on a potters wheel...
First... that is hilarious.

Second.. Your first sentence is exactly the point of my post I think. The years before I met my wife I made an absolute shambles of my life. If it was not for her common sense and persistence in tempering me.. I don't know. I fear the streets.

Also.. these examples very much foster the idea that BP is a spectrum disorder and can affect everybody differently depending on degree of mania as well as the situation they are in. I was frustrated with my first pyschologist because he said I couldn't be bipolar because I'd never spontaneously spent thousands of dollars on new cars, or flown off to Thailand for a sex vacation on a whim, etc. I didn't say it at the time... but there is NO WAY I ever could have done those things given my financial situation. (now that I know more about all of this.. I now know that I DID make a very expensive manic decision a long time ago.. quitting my doctorate on a whim, leaving my fiance to drive to California for a new job, blow everything and do nothing but surf and fish and ruin my career)
