If it is hot at night, I would prefer an RV. The camping I did in my youth (with friends) was in a tent. Most of the time, it was freezing at night (elevations between 5800 and 8000 feet) and we fell asleep in front of a roaring campfire (back and butt cold, face intensely hot). Sometimes the dying fire would make it colder and it would prompt someone to add some logs. Tents were mostly used to get out of the rain, dressing, storing things, etc. During times camping with my parents, it was in a 5th wheel---if they would have given me a tent, I would have gladly slept there alone! When we (H and friends) camped in Mexico, we pitched a tent right on the ocean but stayed at a campground with shower facilities. The desert there was cold (or at least comfortably cool) at night and blazing hot in the day. That campground was next to a Mexican Cantina with live music during the busy season (springtime). The place was a ghost town during the summer--as hot and barren as Death Valley and the ocean was quite warm in the summertime.
