Maybe its broken? Mine just makes a soft whir noise. Besides, would you rather listen to that noise, or the sounds he makes sleeping without the machine? I lived with someone who needed one and he'd sometimes nap without it- ugh! No fun. I always wear mine. I just can't sleep without it.
