I agree mental health is broken, However one thing I notice in my community there is an abundance of addiction services to fight the opioid epidemic. From all my research and experience trauma is at the core of addiction. You can't fix the addiction without dealing with the trauma - that is just a set up to fail and relapse. I agree many say they can treat trauma but ptsd vs complex trauma is a very different treatment model. Without the proper training it can re-traumatize the person. Trust been there done that and why I am very picky in choosing a therapists. I had NAMI help me finding a provider and they were upset I didn't take the only Medicare provider at one of their medicaid only agencys. The women had no clue about trauma. I asked if she was familiar with Bessel van der Kolks book and she said anyone can write a book. SMH LMAO and apparently anyone can be a therapists too. That helps me red flag therapists these days...smh lol. My point I shouldn't have to settle for therapists bc they take my medicare I deserve to find some one who is skilled in trauma.
My point is we need more services avail just like addiction and every other dang mental illness.
