I enjoy playing World of Warcraft and joined a very nice and chatty guild. I did raids with them over the weekend while using voice chat, and it was nice to socialize even if they are pretty much strangers still (I only joined the guild a few days ago).
I've also met someone from this forum in real life, and we are good friends now. He is coming down to visit me later this week, in fact!
You can always find people that share your interests. I, too, am into video games and a good place to find these people is in, well, video games! Or even FB groups for these video games. I wish you all the best in finding people who share your interests, there are a lot of gamers out there.

I do a lot of online gaming myself. Used to play WoW and I'm thinking about getting back into it as well and I do have people that I game with but it still doesn't help with my need for IRL human contact.
The one biggest regret that I have in life so far was selling my old WoW account all because I was desperate for money to get away from my controlling mother.
I was a Multi Gladiator and had things you can't get anymore such as the Hand of A'dal title and one of the server first crafting achievements.
I had a lot of friends who I played with too and met some of them at Blizzcon back in 2011 but I dropped contact when I sold my account.
I gave all this for a measly $800.
I would still have friends if I never became so money hungry and desperate to avoid my problems
I still hate myself for making such stupid choices in life.
