I had to work hard at accepting my bipolar 1 diagnosis. I went to therapy and it took me a year to accept it. Then I was so depressed in the fall and winter. I would think about all that I had lost. I continued therapy to work on that. And I learned it was nothing I did to deserve this illness. I have remission as long as I'm on meds. I have not been in the hospital since 2014. But I still have bipolar one. I'm just stable because of meds and hard work. I also went to support groups (IRL). It was so helpful to see and hear others with the same struggles. For my depression I was put on Lamictal. Then two years later it was not helping so we changed to Zoloft. I only take a low dosage bc some antidepressants make me manic
