I find with me there are short episodes of depression, mania and hypomania and other accompanying symptoms like psychosis (hallucinations/ delusions) dissociation (depersonalization\derealization ) but as long as I let let my treatment providers know when my symptoms are increasing they are able to do medication adjustments to get me back on track rather quickly. and of course continue with your sobriety, I have found that the meds that work for bipolar disorders are not the kinds a person can drink alcohol with.
