There is certainly a need to keep the big pharmaceutical companies in line. They do need to be accountable in a world for them that is profit motivated. Side affects of medications can be horrendous. Hate to think of the unseen damage that is being inflicted on our bodies. People suffering from side affects should have an open discussion with their p'docs to get the right balance for their needs.

Like with any medications for any illness there are going to be issues and on the whole doctors are asked to weigh up the pros and cons of certain medications. There was a documentary produced in the UK recently about a doctor wanting to get all people medication free and instead of pushing pills he urged pill free alternative - Dr Chris van Tulleken. (The Doctor who gave up on drugs BBC1).

This video is certainly food for thought. 50 years ago mental illness had no support, no funding and most things were kept in the dark. Psychiatry has made some major advances since then and needs support funding and open discussion. Funding alone has a very long way to go across the world.

I agree with what whisperingskye said. Anything like the London Marathon promoting awareness of mental illness and therapies and support and care is a good thing. I do not believe that the right medication medication should be used alone but more as an adjunct with other forms of therapies, care and support and hoping/helping people to be as well as they can be.
