I find that wearing cotton helps keep the odor down. Polyester and other synthetics somehow promote the sweat odor. I use an unscented antiperspirant daily. I don't like the smell of deodorants or scented antiperspirants. I think I would rather smell the odor of sweat than of a cloying deodorant.

I remember when I was a teen, that there were these armpit pads called "dress shields" that you would wear if you were worried about sweating in your pretty dress and embarrassing yourself with those telltale pit stains. Don't know if they make those anymore. They can be reused many times, just wash in between uses. (I haven't heard of them for years, though. May have gone the way of the horse and buggy.)
