yes that makes perfect sense and what my system was like. those I had co consciousness with it was not a visually seeing them in my mind. it was just a "knowing" that they were there. then later on after I knew more about the alters I could, while using my normal imagination skills, form a mental image of them based on what i knew about them....
example Rainy disclosed she had light brown hair, round face, wearing a sunflower dress I found a photograph of me at her age and it resembled what she was telling my treatment provider and I. after that I was able to use my.......imagination... to form a mental picture of what she looked like. just like someone can imagine what a piece of fruit they recently ate, looks like in their mind.
but with out Rainy describing herself and with out using my normal imagination skills I could not "see" her. it was just a "knowing" that she was there.
